What is melanotan?

Important: Melanotan II is not approved for human use in the US, UK, EU or Australia. Unregulated products may be mislabeled or contaminated. This page does not give dosing instructions and is not medical advice.

Melanotan I led to afamelanotide (brand name Scenesse), an implant approved for a rare light-sensitivity condition called erythropoietic protoporphyria. It is given only by specialists.

Melanotan II has never been approved as a medicine anywhere. Products sold online as melanotan are unregulated, and agencies including the FDA, the UK MHRA and the Australian TGA have issued warnings about them.

Related approved drugs, such as bremelanotide (Vyleesi), exist for specific medical uses and are prescription only.
